What to pack for a campervan trip in the Canary Islands
Plan your luggage around the actual vehicle, the weather on your route and what you will use each day.

Check what the listing includes before packing
Campervan listings do not all include the same equipment. Check whether bedding, towels, cookware, a stove and gas, a table, chairs, cleaning products or charging cables are provided. Ask whether any item shown in a photo is for illustration only and is not part of the rental.
Write down what is missing and bring only what you will use. Knowing whether there is a fridge, shower, kitchenware and storage space affects both your shopping and the size of your bag. Keep the owner’s answer with your booking if an item is essential.
Pack clothes for the coast, wind and higher ground
Plan for the places on your route, not just the temperature at the beach. Lightweight clothes, one warm layer and a windproof jacket usually take less space than several bulky outfits. Add comfortable closed-toe shoes, swimwear, a hat and sun protection.
Check AEMET’s forecast for the towns and mountain areas on your route before setting out: conditions can differ between the coast and inland. If you plan a hike, bring footwear and clothing suitable for that route and check local trail notices separately.
Use compact bags and secure your luggage
Soft bags often fit campervan storage spaces better than rigid suitcases. Separate wet clothes, shoes and toiletries in sealed bags to keep the sleeping area clear and make things easier to find.
Before driving, place heavier items low and secure all luggage. Do not leave bags loose on beds, tables or walkways, and make sure they do not block the driver’s view, doors or exits. Spain’s DGT advises arranging and securing loads so they do not affect vehicle stability, passenger movement or visibility.
Keep documents and driving essentials close
Bring your ID, driving licence, booking confirmation and the assistance details included with the rental. Check which drivers are authorised and pack any personal medication you need. Keep documents and keys in a consistent, accessible place.
A phone, charging cable and power bank can be useful; download maps if you expect areas with limited coverage. Keep chargers and frequently used items in a secure compartment instead of loose in the cab.
Wait until collection before doing a large grocery shop
Check the fridge size and available storage before buying food. Start with water and simple food for the first part of the trip, then restock along your route. Use sealed containers and do not leave perishable food in a hot campervan.
Bring rubbish bags and ask how to fill or empty the vehicle’s tanks according to its instructions. Use authorised facilities for water and waste, and do not leave rubbish or pour liquids into the environment.
