Choosing a rental vehicle in the Canary Islands: camper, 4x4 or boat
Choose between a campervan, motorhome, 4x4 camper or boat by comparing your group, route and the conditions of each real listing.

Start with your dates, group and travel plan
Decide whether your trip is mainly by road or at sea, how many people are travelling and what kind of space you need. Vaneando lists campervans, motorhomes, 4x4 campers and boats or sailboats. Availability depends on the island and your dates, so compare actual listings rather than relying on a category name alone.
Check approved travel seats separately from beds: the numbers can differ. For boats, check passenger capacity and whether the listing includes a skipper. Think about luggage, storage, time on board and where you want to collect the vehicle or depart from.
Compare campervans and motorhomes
Compact campers can be easier to manoeuvre, while larger campervans and motorhomes may offer more living space or storage. Compare real dimensions, beds, seats and the equipment included in each listing. Do not assume a camper has a bathroom, shower or kitchen unless the listing says so.
Check how the vehicle fits the roads and parking on your itinerary. A larger vehicle can be comfortable inside but requires more planning around height, length and turning space. Confirm collection, mileage, cleaning, fuel, deposit and insurance information before requesting dates.
Consider a 4x4 camper carefully
A 4x4 camper may suit a particular setup or route, but check its approved seats, sleeping arrangement, dimensions and equipment just as you would for any other vehicle. Four-wheel drive does not grant access to restricted roads, tracks or protected areas.
Before planning a track, consult current local guidance and ask the owner what the rental terms permit. On Tenerife, the Cabildo publishes forest-track access information and notices; check for updates close to your trip and follow signs on the ground.
For a boat, check the port and engine-hour terms
Confirm the island and marina or meeting point where the trip starts and ends. Check who will operate the boat and, if it is a bareboat rental, what qualification applies to that vessel and arrangement. Ask about fuel, skipper, equipment and weather or cancellation terms where the listing is unclear.
Some boat listings specify engine hours included per day and a rate for additional hours. If those figures are published, include them in your budget and confirm how usage is recorded. Included engine hours are not the same as the total time you have the boat.
Compare the total price and handover
Review the full price for your dates, not only the headline daily rate. Check cleaning, delivery, mileage, fuel, deposit, extra equipment and any extra engine-hour charge that applies. A deposit is held under its stated conditions and should not be confused with a rental fee.
Check the collection or departure point, handover time, return arrangements, cancellation terms and payment schedule. If you plan to travel between islands by ferry, get permission for the specific vehicle before booking the crossing. Keep important clarifications with the booking.

Frequently asked questions
How do I choose between a campervan, 4x4 and boat?
Start with your group, itinerary and preferred activity. Compare real capacity, equipment, location, total price and the conditions of each listing.
Are travel seats and beds the same number?
Not always. Check approved travel seats separately from sleeping berths in a vehicle listing. Boat listings state their own passenger capacity.
Can I take a rented vehicle to another island?
Only if the owner and rental terms allow it. Confirm ferry use before booking a crossing.
Does the daily price include cleaning, fuel or delivery?
It depends on the listing. Review the price for your dates and confirm any fee that is unclear.
