Lanzarote by campervan: Timanfaya, coast and northern routes
Build a Lanzarote trip around visits you can actually make with your vehicle, with separate time for the volcanic landscape, northern villages and the southwest coast.

Group the north, volcanic centre and southwest
Rather than driving back and forth across Lanzarote, organise nearby stops into separate stages: Teguise and the north, the volcanic area around Timanfaya, and the southwest around La Geria, Yaiza and El Golfo. This is a planning framework, not a promise that every road, attraction or car park is open.
Confirm the campervan’s collection location before choosing the first stage. Leave time for the handover, supplies and the first overnight arrangement. Keep a flexible period for wind, a changed opening time or a visit that needs advance booking.
Timanfaya: understand what the visit includes
The Ruta de los Volcanes at Montañas del Fuego is a visitor bus excursion, not a road to explore freely in your campervan. The attraction operator describes departure from Islote del Hilario, with parking at the visitor site. Check the current admission and access arrangements before travelling there.
Plan the visit separately from a campervan drive through nearby towns and public roads. Check tickets, opening information and any restrictions directly with the operator. Do not build an itinerary around unrestricted driving or walking through the protected volcanic landscape.
Northern stops and the southwest coast
Choose a manageable number of northern visits around Teguise, Haría and the viewpoints toward La Graciosa. Check parking before entering an older village centre or committing to a narrow approach. If the actual entrance does not suit the vehicle, stop safely and use an alternative rather than following navigation instructions blindly.
Treat La Geria, Yaiza and El Golfo as another stage, with time for visits on foot. Check local signs, wind and sea conditions at coastal stops. These suggested areas are places to explore; they are not recommendations to drive onto beaches or a list of approved overnight pitches.
Plan overnight stops before relying on Papagayo
Turismo Lanzarote lists camping information for Papagayo. Consult the campsite’s current opening, booking conditions, vehicle acceptance and services for the actual travel dates. A campsite mentioned in a guide may not be operating throughout the year or have a suitable pitch left.
For any other overnight plan, check the specific location’s signs and requirements rather than assuming that daytime parking permits camping. Agree where water, waste and cleaning can be handled as part of the route and return arrangements.
Fuerteventura by ferry or a visit to La Graciosa
If considering a ferry to Fuerteventura, confirm permission for the particular rental vehicle before booking. Check the vehicle dimensions, rental dates, coverage and return location. Ferry space and the owner’s approval are separate requirements.
For La Graciosa, plan a visit from Lanzarote. Líneas Romero publishes the passenger route between Órzola and Caleta de Sebo; check the current service for your date. Arrange where to leave the campervan and how to explore the island, rather than assuming it can accompany you. The official tourism site describes walking and cycling options on La Graciosa.
Compare the complete hire price and handover
Use the same dates and group size when comparing campervans. Check approved travel seats, beds and any essential kitchen or bathroom equipment, then compare the total with cleaning, extras and any delivery charge. Review mileage, the deposit and cancellation conditions separately.
Before sending the request, confirm the exact meeting point, collection and return times and the procedure for a late flight. At handover, record the vehicle’s condition and ask for a demonstration of its water, battery and safety equipment. Confirm any special route or ferry arrangement in writing.

Frequently asked questions
Can I drive a campervan along the Ruta de los Volcanes?
The attraction operator describes a bus visit from Islote del Hilario. Check the current vehicle access and parking arrangements; the visitor route is not a free-driving campervan itinerary.
Is Papagayo available for every Lanzarote campervan trip?
Check current opening dates, bookings, accepted vehicles and pitch availability directly. A listing in a tourism guide does not guarantee an available campsite for your stay.
Can I include La Graciosa in a Lanzarote campervan holiday?
Yes, as a separately planned visit from Lanzarote. Check the passenger ferry, parking and local transport arrangements; do not assume that your rental vehicle can travel with you.
Can I take the campervan to Fuerteventura?
Only when the specific rental terms and owner allow it, with ferry arrangements and return details confirmed before booking.
